Dr. Jenny (Ji Yoon) Jung
Senior Research Specialist, Automated Scoring

Dr. Ji Yoon (Jenny) Jung specializes in leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) for the automated scoring of written responses in international large-scale assessments (ILSAs). Her current work involves developing, implementing, and validating AI-based automated scoring within the PIRLS framework. Previously, as a graduate research assistant at the TIMSS & PIRLS International Study Center, she conducted research on automated scoring using TIMSS data and performed item response theory (IRT) analysis for the Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (LaNA) Linking Study.

Dr. Jung earned her Ph.D. in Measurement, Evaluation, Statistics, and Assessment from Boston College. Her Ph.D. dissertation demonstrated improved feasibility, multilingual comparability, and scalability of automated scoring in ILSAs using TIMSS data, integrating cutting-edge machine translation, artificial neural networks (ANNs), and large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT. She holds a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology and Research Methodology from Purdue University and a Bachelor’s degree in Education and English Language and Literature from Yonsei University.
